From Robin Wall Kimmerer, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Braiding Sweetgrass, comes The Serviceberry, a profound meditation on reciprocity, abundance, and interconnectedness in the natural world.
As Kimmerer harvests serviceberries alongside the birds, she reflects on the lessons nature teaches about sharing, generosity, and sustainability. In contrast to modern economies built on scarcity and competition, the serviceberry tree thrives through mutual giving, distributing its fruit to nourish its environment while ensuring its own survival.
Through Indigenous wisdom and ecological insights, Kimmerer invites readers to reconsider what we value most—proposing a gift economy rooted in relationships and shared abundance. As she eloquently states, "Hoarding won't save us, all flourishing is mutual."
Featuring evocative illustrations by John Burgoyne, The Serviceberry is an essential read for those seeking a deeper connection to nature, community, and gratitude.
