Gotta love a zine that starts with:

"Merry Old Soul is an anti-fascist zine of seasonal culture for all people. We stand against weaponization of folklore. Folklore is the tool of the people, and we wield it with love"

Reminds me a lot of the Myth & Lore zine’s “Folklore is for Everyone” except that this zine is made in America and I love how more Americans are exploring our mix of folklore.

This issue of Merry Old Soul starts with a sweet anecdote about a family Chistmas discussion started with a compliment on how they talk to their kiddo, the cheeky, but realistic answer was anarchist parenting. Recognzing autonomy in children and eswewig compulsory obeyance can lead to unexpected place.

I really loved the next bits that were modern takes on folklore traditions like Mumming* and Wassailing. I really enjoy the idea of wassailing more than just trees for apples but as an appreciation for all things. There’s also a piece of the constellation of Orion, Imbolc, a recipe for Irish Brown Bread, and 8 reaons why fire is a living being.

If you know me, you know I love perzines an information zines and this mixes the two in an accessible cut and paste layout.
