Independent Bookstore Day is a celebration of independent bookstores across the country that takes place on the last Saturday of April every year. This year, on April 29th, book lovers around the world will come together to celebrate the unique and vital role that independent bookstores play in their communities.

Independent bookstores are more than just places to buy books. Independent bookstores are often run by passionate booksellers who are dedicated to helping readers discover new and exciting books that they might not find elsewhere.

Here at Portland Button Works and the Spiral House Shop, even though we are mostly an online bookstore, we are proud to be an independent bookseller. We vend our books at events several times a year and orders placed online are available for pick up here in Portland. We believe in the power of books to connect people and build community, which is why we are committed to hunting down zines and books we enjoy and sharing them with you.

To celebrate Independent Bookstore Day, we encourage everyone to visit their local independent bookstore, browse their shelves, and discover new books and authors. You can also check out our upcoming vending events and support independent bookstores like ours. Together, we can help keep the magic of independent bookstores alive and thriving for generations to come.
